Chris Gill, Don Thea and Matthew Fox have recently started a public health journal club podcast called Free Associations in which we, with a mix of seriousness and humor, take on some of the latest health studies that have hit the news and try to dissect them and see what we think. We also take on some bigger topics in public health research (should researchers make policy statements, how big a study is big enough, is the impact factor of a journal a sign of quality, etc.) and then we end with some humorous studies and things that we find funny in our profession.

We hope it is a good way for public health professional to keep up on the current literature outside their narrow field, for students to learn to think critically about public health studies or for members of the public to learn more about health research.
